STATE OF THE MASS EFFECT UNION

Hello, and welcome to a special backstage peek at The Normandy Show!

Today we're basically just going to get a good bead on where we are as a cast. There won't be any actual plotting (although if you want to throw ideas around, please, be my guest!), although I'm hoping to cement where we are so we can actually get some plot stuff moving in the future. Speaking of? Check out THIS STUFF HERE that Scott posted in the OOC Comm!

Plot Related Thangs

Where we stand now with OOC plot stuff is kind of in limbo. What with Sandy screwing both Ant and I up (I don't think he has power STILL, and the office where I work is underwater) and Ant's always busy work schedule, it's kind of tough to actually sit down and come up with things. HOWEVER!!! This doesn't mean we still can't do stuff with what we have right now-- there are still a couple of plot threads that have been left open that we can work with, and I'll hopefully be able to come up with something soon, after pouring through all of our details.

WITH THAT IN MIND: if anybody here has ANY ideas WHATSOEVER that you'd like to do, please speak up!!! Like I said above, I'm going to be going through all of what we have soon, so if you have any questions regarding past stuff, you can come straight to me instead of Ant! Don't be shy, guys! (hehe shy guys. mario joke. shut up)

FINALLY something that was brought up to me which is actually a pretty good point is trying to formulate plots as a sort of opt-in thing. That is, we don't make any moves until we've contacted who we'd like in the plot personally. it's a good idea, but it's also A HUGE UNDERTAKING, so I'd appreciate any help you guys may be able to offer there. But that's something to worry about later on. I just thought I'd bring it up now so it's not a surprise or anything.

WHERE WE AT

Okay, so I've gathered up as many threads as I could find pertaining the the Mass Effect cast, the status of Normandy's repair, the status of Joker's repair, and also where we stand plot wise now. A LOT OF THIS STUFF FEATURES GARRUS/MY CHARACTERS SINCE THEY'RE THE ONLY ONES I ACTUALLY HAVE THE ABILITY TO TRACK EFFICIENTLY. If you have anything to add please let me know and I'll put it up!

TL;DR: Kasumi is on supply gathering duty, Garrus was almost killed by a medi-gel dispenser, Tony is aroused by the very concept of element zero, and Normandy's repairs are pretty much done outside of the busted wing, which is probably close to being fully repaired.

We don't have any threads for this because it's all been pretty much handwaved, BUT essentially, Joker, Mordin and Gunny are at the point where they're using little girl stem cells to grow back Joker's nerve cells so he can walk again. This is also the tl;dr.

September Plot Related
Okay so FIRST OFF to anyone who doesn't know, we had to trim the end of the September plot and cut out the final fight with Loki. WHICH ACTUALLY WORKS because it's a loose end we can tie up sometime in the future if needed. Everything else happened, AEGIS has been formed, that's completely set in stone. THERE WILL BE AN OFFICIAL SIGN UP FOR IT SOON. I'm actually kind of hoping Scott's plot above will work as a catalyst (which I know is a swear word for us ME folks but work with me here), but if anyone else has any back up ideas PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I'm honestly drawing blanks on how to make it so people can sign up ICly, so please, any thoughts are very welcome!!!

Garrus and Thor talking about the aftermath Loki maybe being involved is brought up as is intel Liara would have, but Jen is also SUPER BUSY so this is definitely something that can wait.

Basically, this is all so we're up to speed OOCly and ICly, and also a way to crowd source ideas for the future. As always, questions, comments, etc. are more than welcome and it'd be awesome if we could drum up conversation!

NORMANDERPS ASSEMBLE

Okay, so this is again related to the awesomesauce plot we have going on.

While Joker is captured, we were planning on having him bluff the Purists so that they stop beating on him long enough for him to get a message to Jim. I was thinking last night ~~in between watching EMH goddammit that show is addictive~~ that Joker would try to bluff them into thinking that the Normandy crew is just part of a larger refugee organization, and that the Purists have been going after small fry rather than the real threat. He would be trying to send them onto a wild goose chase to take some of the heat off of the Normandy crew, because even if the Purists don't completely believe him, it would be important enough that they would expend time and resources trying to figure out its veracity. I wanted to run this by everyone because Ant mentioned that if we go this route, the Purists will attack more in general. So it's a bit of a double-edged sword, but I thought it might have some potential for future plotting!

So yeah, I wanted to run it by everyone because it kind of might affect everyone. Thoughts?

Hey guys! Getting sick of me yet?

Okay so last post we went over the main events of the plot, but didn’t get a chance to really do a timeline. So here’s a proposal for one that will hopefully be flexible for all of us! There are also a couple of other things (involving character arcs and overall plot summaries) that could use some opinions, so be sure to check it out and drum up some discussion over here.

Originally I was going to make this all pretty, but I decided to get cute/corny about it instead. ANYWAY, screw it let’s get right down to the good stuff:

Keep in mind: all dates are IC unless specified otherwise; this is just a basic blueprint of events, go nuts with anything else you’d like to do; if something doesn’t work for you or if you have anything to add, LET ME KNOW! Amelia has been setting up safe areas around the Thor, helping to prevent any refugee or civilian casualties.

ACT 1

30th

Attacked and Kidnapped!

(actual logging begins the 24th) Kamui, under Purist orders, breaks into the Normandy. Bakara faces off against him first, gets her krogan butt kicked. Joker is captured just after he locks Gunny and Kolyat in the bathroom like the losers they are.

Bakara is taken to the clinic for very obvious reasons. Wrex gets mad.

September

1st

Problematic…

Mordin talks to Fem!Shep about what’s happened after finishing Bakara’s treatment. FemShep hulks out and leaves the hospital.

Dave Nails overhears the whole conversation, including the bit about the guns.

Joker manages to get in touch with the Normandy Crew via omni-tool and reveal his location. He subsequently gets the ever-loving shit beat out of him, including taking a metal rod to his lower back.

Normandy Crew infiltrates the Purist hideout to rescue Joker and bring back some souvenirs—namely, Joker’s interrogators. Datamining is also a thing.

Joker is brought to the clinic for intensive treatment. (Logs for visiting afterward?)

Purist Operatives are interrogated in return by AEGIS, where a familiar name is brought up: General Doodicus

Minako’s snooping has paid off! We learn some interesting information not only on General Doodicus, but on the Purists as a whole.

Loki lets it slip that Kamui, one of the other major players, is down on the planet. Fox flies Wrex and Aria planetside for another showdown. Everybody has to make their way back to the Thor before it leaves! (NOTE: this actual fight log will start on the 17th due to schedule stuff)

DID THEY SEND ME DAUGHTERS WHEN I ASKED FOR SONS?

Hey, everybody!

So the end of August is nearly upon us and I know I’ve been promising a “STORY THUS FAR…” for a while, so here it is! Let me know if I’ve missed anything! I’d also like to get some TO DO stuff out of the way, too if that’s all right.

This entire time, Garrus has been keeping IC notes on what’s been going on. I’ve sort of combined it with an OOC FAQ sort of thing, but it’s a mess right now. Apologies for that! You can find it here, though! If anyone has any suggestions to make that post less of a travesty, I’m all ears! If you’re new to the plot/cast/etc., I suggest reading that first. We’ll be happy to answer any questions, though!

On that note, we have a few newcomers (both to the cast, and to the plot as a whole!) so I’d really like it if we could maybe pull together an even bigger “STORY THUS FAR…” going all the way back to when the Purist plot just started. Maybe we can make a Google Doc or something? It would pretty much be a way to let us pull together our characters’ paths into a single place where we can make a comprehensive story. Who knows, it may help us unlock plot stuff in the future, too! It’s something to think about at least.

I’d also like to propose the idea of maybe bringing in personal character arcs, kind of inspired by the fact that this particular plot revolves around Joker and something that would really alter his character, how he’s played, development, etc. It would be kind of cool to maybe include a lottery system where people who’d like to do a plot that would help develop their character(s) can volunteer, and then get picked at random to do something that will not only push forward the overall Purist storyline, but also help jumpstart that character’s development. Also, depending on the plot that’s happening, we can have more than one character getting an arc at once.

For example, let’s say I’d like to explore Garrus’ love for turian chocolate. Somehow in his quest to find the ultimate bar of chocolate, he discovers a button that would destroy the entire Thor, and now everyone must keep it out of Purist hands! DUN DUN DUNNNN!!! In doing so, Garrus learns that not all chocolate is created equal, the team manages to uncover more data about the Purists, and everyone unlocks the ability to fart rainbows.

…Obviously these arcs would be way more thought out than that, but shhh.

Now, an issue I can see with something like this is that it can get kind of repetitive in terms of plotting (character(s) get singled out, everybody fights the bad guys, piece of the puzzle is uncovered, go home), so I’d really like to hear any/all opinions! Maybe we can come up with some story stuff? Want to add onto this idea? Think it’s poop? Let’s get some discussion going!

But enough with the announcements! Let’s get down to business ~~to defeat the Huns~~.

So for anyone who’s keeping track, there have already been a couple of posts setting up the plot for September, which I’ll do a recap for at the end. If you haven’t seen them yet, or need a refresher on what’s going on, here’s a compiled list of them!

Now with all that out of the way, Here’s the last post where we went over the gist of the story stuff. Since then, we’ve cemented these bits:

The Avengers part of AEGIS will be patrolling areas where these weapons have been sighted/used/or happen to pop up. This will be an open log that everyone can join. PEOPLE INTERESTED IN THE PLOT WHO ARE JUST TUNING IN? THIS MAY BE A GOOD GATEWAY FOR YOU! HEROES/VILLAINS/ETC.
Loki’s back, and is this time working with Kamui (who is in turn working for the Purists)! Goals are to create mayhem with the group Thor is helping bring together (AEGIS) and show just how weak-willed mortals are when it comes to horrible weapons.
Dave Nails will be spreading information about the guns to the general public. (Going to triple check with Jess on this, but I’m pretty sure it’s good to go!) Hopefully this will drum up more IC/OOC interest!

With all of that out of the way, I’d like to use this post to maybe work out a rough timeline for things to go down. This will probably be the plot for all of September, so we’ll have a month to get everything done. It may bleed a bit into October, but hopefully not!

The main plot points we need to cover aaarrrree:

Large wave of microwave guns on the streets of the Thor
Joker’s kidnapping
Release of information to the general public
Finding and destroying the guns / Rescuing Joker / Confronting Purists and stealing data
Final confrontation with Loki and Kamui (former on the ship, latter on the planet)
ICly Coming up with a plan to fix Joker's fucked-uppery

So if we can get a rough timeline together for these events, we should be good to go! Everything else is up to player discretion/doesn't need to be plotted to the final detail.

SUP GUYS

Okay so here is a plot proposal for AEGIS. An incomplete one, though, which is where you guys come in!

The Mass Effect crew has a little something coming up that we figured could be expanded into a bigger something! Keep in mine that, as always, everything mentioned in this post is just a proposal and is meant to be talked about and expanded upon! If a player doesn't want to have his/her character involved for any reason YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED! JUST SAY SO!

Cliffnotes version:

1) Kamui from Gintama has been hired by the Purists to wreak some havoc with the microwave guns, which he'll be obtaining through his new mob boss job. He'll be distributing those to NPCs (POSSIBLY PCs, too-- still debating on that) During the month of August, characters may notice a higher rate of incidents concerning severe burns and radiation poisoning, but more on that later. Moriarty and Loki may want in on this! WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

2) While the month goes on, guns will start showing up on the streets, as will related casualties (fatal and otherwise). Dave Nails will be most likely be reporting on these and letting the general public know about it! How? By using his rad journalist janitor powers!

3) Since Kamui is working for the Purists, they'll also be getting him to kidnap Joker from the Normandy. Partly to mess with the Normandy Crew, but mostly to extract information from who they assume is their weakest link.

4) After Joker is kidnapped, the Normandy Crew will track down/figure out where he is but not before they fuck him up something good (more on that later). The proposed teams to go and get him are:

Team Rescue (black ops)-- Jim Shepard, Mordin, Thane and Garrus [Rescue Joker]
Team Girl Power-- Jane Shepard, Liara, Tali and Miranda [Find the interrogators, gather any data]
Team Fuck Kamui Up-- Wrex and Aria [Fuck Kamui up]

AGAIN this is only a proposal! Anyone who has any ideas can go right on in the comments and say them! IDEAS ARE GOOD!

Okay so, that's the Mass Effect side of things, where the hell does everyone else come into this?

Well, that's really up in the air, but, like I said earlier, this is where player input is really appreciated!

First of all, someone is going to get their hands on that surplus of weaponry, NPC or otherwise. Unfortunately, we have a severe lack of villains in the game, which makes it tough! We're thinking about doing temporary villain stuff, but that's another thing for another time! ANYWAY, because the Normandy Crew will be busy grabbing their pilot, they can't work on the gun distribution, or raiding/fighting the source, who/whatever that may be.

SECOND OF ALL, for those who don't know, Joker has brittle bone disease. His interrogators are going to take advantage of that and pretty much paralyze him from the waist down. It would be pretty awesome to have some science in there to fix that (like robo science).

BASICALLY the goal for this post is to cement the Normandy Crew plans, and to come up with some other stuff to tie into the whole plot. For reference, we'll have a month before anything actually happens, so we have time to get stuff done!

UGH EPIC FAILS ALL AROUND

Okay so remember a month back when the first mention of Thoravengers happened? Well... we kind of slacked off for a bit and weren't really sure on what was happening. I know a lot of you are still interested and that's great!

This is just a post to let you know it's still happening! I posted up a log for the first meeting of Shepard and Thor to talk about it and start up a plan on getting everyone together! So it's slowly happening...

THORVENGERS ASSEMBLE!!!!!!!!!

Hey everybody!

How're you all doing? Good? Good!

Okay so, just to make sure we're all on the same page, here's a quick recap of the latest plot. This includes information that, as of this writing is NOT available to any of the characters. I'll be sure to differentiate so we know what's what!

- Loki is a poop and destroyed about two blocks worth of lower-income, not-quite-slummy area.
- While it looked like a temper tantrum thrown by Daddy's Second Favorite, it actually served a legit purpose! You see, Team Sabotage wound up winning the 'The General' story arc, and therefore broke him out of Normal!Police prison. Noiz, a newcomer to the plot, worked on the actual break out, while Jim Moriarty worked as an escort. <-- NOT KNOWN JUST YET
- The General is no longer on the ship-- this is going to leak sometime soon. Hopefully. Gotta work out a couple of details there.
- There were NO casualties NPC or PC; Also, PC housing wasn't affected.
- Why did they do this? Shits and giggles, mostly.

Now that we have that out of the way (any questions, and I'll be happy to answer them!) there is a nice little proposition that's come out of this that, while not initially intended, worked out REALLY nicely!

So, who here knows about The Avengers? You know, that movie that's not very well known and may have attracted some mainstream attention over the past couple of weeks. It's based on this comic book that nobody really cares about. It's okay if you don't, it's not that big of a deal.

Well, after this latest plot, a very nice point was brought up: The Thor is going to need a group of Good Guys to keep the Purists and crazies at bay. With the way things have been going thus far, everyone has been too splintered and relatively ineffective against the real threat. And seeing how well the Avengers, Normandy Crew, and a few other people worked together against Loki, there's going to be a meeting with everyone. Eventually, our goal is to ICly have an even bigger team opened up to other players/characters.

Now what does this mean for us?

Obviously, it wouldn't be fair to push anybody into doing something they don't want to, ICly or OOCly, so this is going to be a plot post to go over a few different things, since the first meeting will understandably handwaved. Once we hammer out those details, I'll make a recap post so we're all on the same page again.

What the meeting will be about (In a handy list format!):

- Risk assessment of the Thor. Does it need a team of Do-Gooders to keep it safe? (The answer is 'YES' if it weren't obvious)
- Who wants to be involved in the actual team. Everyone who's been propositioned will have time to think about it before another huge get together to give their answers.
- Whether or not to let other people know/open the doors for newcomers who want to play hero. (This will eventually happen, and the ooc stuff will be taken care of by Xy/lightnings's player)
- Anything else you think should be brought up? Let it be known in the comments!

We also want to confirm:

- Who actually wants a part in the Thorvengers (TITLE PENDING). If you feel your character wouldn't be a part of the group, whether or not they're a part of the Normandy Crew, or if YOU don't want to be involved as a player, it is PERFECTLY ALL RIGHT to say no!
- Who would react to whom, and how-- we unfortunately don't really have the time/means to coordinate a logged meeting with so many people, so handwaving things would probably be the best.
- Anything your character can bring to the table. For example, Garrus will probably bring up previous attempts to get people together for anti-Purist talks and also his vigilante work down in the slums. This is a great time for any and all characters to bring information to the table!
- Again, anything else you can think of!

Hey guys! Just thought I should let you know that I put an OOC post up here pertaining to other players joining in on Doodicus!

There will be more details as Ant and I finalize some things, but in the meantime, use this post here to discuss a few things if you'd like! YOU CAN ALSO USE THE OOC POST THERE TOO BUT WHATEVER YOU WANT TO DO.

ALSO I wanted to thank you guys for being awesome about the Doodicus plot thus far. ;w; I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS CAST. GIVE YOURSELVES A PAT ON THE BACK.

SO I'M A STINKER AND SUCK AT GETTING HOME EARLY

Okay hello everybody!

So that super special awesome plot starts tonight. But never fear, it can go on for as long as we want, so no pressure in backtagging!

With that being said, we've come up with a plan! A not so final plan if anybody has any other ideas, it's basically a blueprint for us to follow and make sure we're all on the same page.

So, as seen in the previous post we had a few volunteers for who would get injured in the fight. To make it fair, I ran everybody through a random generator and it turns out that Liara won! Hooray! She gets to go home microwaved! Double hooray! But don't worry, it's not fatal, just incredibly painful. And feels like burning.

It wasn't clearly stated as to whether or not we wanted to do a log, SO Ant came up with an idea. BASICALLY, whatever teams we break up into do their own logs, and we just keep in constant contact with one another about what's going on, and move at whatever paces serve us best.

Now that brings us to one thing: how are we going to break up the squad!

We're proposing that we have three groups:

Team Sheploo

Team Femshep

Team Spikedick

Team Spikedick will be Garrus, Fox and Wrex. That leaves Femshep and Sheploo with Liara (presumably on Sheploo's team), Tali, Grunt, Legion and Mordin.

AS FOR MIRANDA (we didn't forget you!!!) once you get off hiatus we can hash out something for her to have done throughout this plot. Feel free to PM/IM me or Ant and we can come up with something for Miranda to do on her own!

Joker gets to stay on stand-by with the Normandy.

Again, if anybody has ANY issue whatsoever with character roles, please let me know here, these plans CAN BE CHANGED to fit your schedule or accommodate any ideas you may have.

NOW ONTO THE SPECIFICS OF WHAT WILL HAPPEN!

So a basic idea would be as follows:

Normandy Crew splits up.

Normandy Crew busts the deal.

Normandy Crew incites a fight!

General Doodicus (that is his official name now. Deal with it.) and his cronies fight back! At this point, one of said cronies, fires a special weapon that microwaves Liara (to put it coarsely).

Now from here, things can go any number of ways!

Obviously, someone's gonna have to get Liara out of there. Ant has suggested that Wrex lay down covering fire while someone extracts Liara. Meanwhile, Femshep and Sheploo can have their major argument in regards to whether they should go after the general or stop an actual war from breaking out! Garrus will take it upon himself to try and apprehend Doodicus and will ultimately fail (way to go) and the rest...well, that's up to you guys!

I'll be putting up Garrus' post right after putting this up. Feel free to set up teams in here, and log as you want over the weekend and beyond. TIMELINE SHIZZLE

Okay guys, here's how the timeline is looking. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then please READ EVERYTHING IN THIS POST HERE. EVEN THE COMMENTS.. I'll be more than happy to clarify any questions anyone may have.

April 10th (tomorrow. herp) -- Preventer work log is going up.

For those who are just tuning in, here's a thread about what the Preventers do! And here is a POST about the Purists! Now, the Normandy Crew isn't a part of the Preventers, but they work together with them in order to right the Purists. Preventers take care of the political stuff, Normandy Crew blows shit up. Simple, right?

April 13th -- Friday

Friday night is when I'd like to have everything ICly go down. I'll kick it off with Garrus making a filtered post to the ME cast and anyone else involved.

From there… we can either log things out or we can handwave. Again, I'd personally like to handwave, BUT logging is on the table, too. No matter what, though, we definitely need to hash things out either in this post, or in a future plotting post dedicated specifically to the base storming. Please put in your two cents, you never know when you may have a brilliant idea hidden away! Also, this helps keep a headcount of who is available.

Some things we'll have to discuss include: teams (Sheploo and Femshep are each most likely going to lead one, with a few extras left over. Should Garrus lead a crew too? Fox? Anyone else? Volunteer/make suggestions! Everybody is fair game!

No matter what, remember that general dude ESCAPES. Should we have a team injury be the cause? Does anyone have any ideas? AGAIN. SPEAK UP! If you have an idea, share it! :D

April 18th

This is when news spreads that General Dude has escaped! This is also where it kind of leaves our hands-- anyone else in the game who's signed up for an assassin/bodyguard job can find General Dude and bring him in for trial/questioning.

And that's it for this month! The trial is next month, and we can use what remains of this month to have the crew talk over what went wrong, what the Purists are up to, etc.

Speak with Ant about hashing out findings your character may have made, if any! I'll be posting some stuff into the comment myself once this is finally posted!

Okay so since our cast is getting so large, Shepard is going to hold a meeting to get everyone up to speed about everything that has been going on.

Like how there's two Shepard's now, alternate universes and about Illusive Man being on the Thor as well. Stuff like that, and what they're up against etc etc whatever you want to happen I guess.

FIRST OFFICIAL PLOTTING POST HOORAY

Okay so what is this plot all about?

Well we’ll get to that! This whole thing is basically a freewrite so I can just go ahead and write and get all the stuff out without having to go through all the pain of thinking. For now. Anyway here’s what we know so far:

The planet is a war games planet! Laser tag and stuff, nothing involving live ammo…

…that is until the Purists appear! DUN DUN!!!

So here’s the lowdown on that: As we know (or will know once I finish that OTHER write up haha) the Purists have infiltrated most of the political higher ups (ANT CLARIFY. I DON’T KNOW WORDS). On the planet there’s going to be an exchange between a Purist rep and some arms group I don’t know. A neutral party, a high ranking military official, is going to be overseeing the whole process.

The Normandy crew is going to get a tip off on said exchange. And, seeing a chance to expose/catch/etc. the Purists, or at least one of them, they’re going to storm the base. Cue firefight.

There are going to be full details once we have a good idea on how big our cast is going to be (HOORAY APPS!!! 8D) and who would react how.

No matter what, though, the military official escapes. This is where the rest of the game comes in—whoever so chooses the job that has to do with bounty hunting can bring this dude in.

IF FOR WHATEVER REASON nobody else in the game is able/doesn’t want to be involved/whatever, this job can default to a group that’s already involved in Purist plotting. Preventers? Someone who’s acting alone? We’re going to need a head count or something.

So after general dude is brought in, there’s going to be a trial (?). I don’t know the specifics of that, but the final result will be a huge expose on the Purists. We may have to warn the whole game? Not sure. ANT CLARIFY THIS TOO.

Extra stuff:

The Purists have information on the entire Normandy Crew! It’s possible though that Male Shepard is a wildcard, since the information they got was from a Legion that came from a Female Shepard storyline.

Garrus is a marked man with a “KILL ON SIGHT” order. This could be something to play with, whether with antagonists in the cast (AHEM TIM) or something that could come into play in the plot. Because of that, everybody is on watch, too, with emphasis placed on Shepard since she’s been helping him shoot people. PLAY AROUND WITH THIS INFORMATION GUYS!!! It’d be awesome if everybody could get their own piece of plot pie ALONG with a whole plot cake. WE ARE GOING TO GET SO FAT.
The Normandy Crew will be acting with LETHAL FORCE. I’m not sure how this will affect their relations with Preventer. Robyn, can you clarify this?

I FORGOT THIS IN THE ORIGINAL WRITE UP: We're also planning on having something happen to Mordin's clinic where one of the bodies Garrus brings in has been bugged using some sort of synthetic organ thing. This will put the clinic in danger (EVEN MOAR DANGER). RYO YOU PROBABLY REMEMBER/KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS THAN I DO. LET ME KNOW IF I MISSED THINGS!

The Normandy herself needs an awesome moment. ANY IDEAS?

There are people who are not part of the ME cast who will be involved too! The one who comes to mind is Fox mostly. IF YOU KNOW ANYONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO BE INVOLVED, PLEASE, LET ME OR ANT (mostly Ant) KNOW!!!! It’s already shaping up to be something big, so if it’s going to get even bigger, we absolutely must know in advance so we can accommodate everybody.
